History Stuff

I'm feeling lazy, so I am just copying and pasting...

Format
Section A: 4 time questions (4x1m)
                 2 short-answer questions (2m and 4m (2m give 1 paragraphs and 4m give 4
                 Paragraphs)
Section B: 2 source-based questions (5mx2)
Total: 20m
Duration: 45mins
Topics to revise
Unit 1 Lesson 5: counting time in History
Unit 1 Lesson 6: source-based questions
Unit 2 Lesson 1: concept of founding
Please read textbook chapter 2 about how Raffles founded Singapore and how he worked with Farquhar.
Source A tells us that the British founded Singapore in order to break the trade monopoly that the Dutch wanted to establish in the Archipelago and to safeguard British trading interests. This is seen in Source A that the Dutch wanted to “keep [the British] from trading with the islands of the Archipelago” and hence the motivation to found Singapore so that the British can “have a free and uninterrupted trade with the islands of the Archipelago”.
Source A also tells me that the British founded Singapore because they wanted to limit the Dutch territorial expansion. Source A states that Raffles is “concerned about the activities of the Dutch, who is not satisfied with Java and the Moluccas and have tried to take control of the whole of Borneo and Sumatra”, resulting in British reaction to plant the British flag in Singapore. This implies that the British wanted to limit the territorial expansion of the Dutch by occupying SIngapore.
Time - its relevance to our study of History ( Unit 1 Lesson 5 E-Journal)
  1. Sequence of events - documentation of the past is done correctly/ accurately (historical evidence/artifacts)
  2. Make the linkages between the past, present and future to see the patterns and make valid predictions.
Founding as a concept (Unit 2 lesson 1 E-journal)
  1. A founder needs to be just - conflicts will arise if there is a fairness/ justice
  2. Welfare of the state+people
  3. Set up a formal structure of laws and order
  4. Establish strong networks, politically and economically
  5. Provide a unique identity for the state.

So all this is the notes that I have taken down during today's History lesson.
:)))

Reminder

For Higher Chinese Paper 1, only the letter-writing will be tested.

Homework 4/5

Due to incomplete homework post, I have posted this. My apologies if this has incurred your wrath, Claudia.

ADMT- Dear S107,

The class will miss all ADMT lessons this week, due to level test on Thursday and Good Friday. To ensure the package assignment can be completed on time, due in Term 2 week 5, I will need all of you to design the net diagram of your package during the weekends.

A package generally consists of 3 parts, base, sides+joining area and cover+locking mechanism. Please make use of the following instructions to design the net diagram of your package. You are also allowed to research for interesting net diagram for your product in the Internet, but please take note of the dimensions, as the package has to be a "working package" for your product.

Important Notes:
- The actual size of the net diagram will be bigger than the sketchbook, thus the actual drawing needs to be scaled down proportionally.
- Do design the graphics to be placed on the package that attract the target audience. Include Logo and brand.
-The instructions are used to create a box like package, your design can differ, but you will have to think about ways to create it.

1. Designing the Base of package
The following are required.
- Length, width or radius of product,
- Quantity (2,3 or 4):
- Space between products,
- Space between the product and wall of the package
- Orientation of how the products are placed. Avoid stacking so that the design of the net diagram will be simpler.

2. Designing the walls of the package + joining area
- Height of the wall will be height of the product + 1 or 2cm.
- The joining areas used to join the sides to create the wall of the package can be 1 or 2cm.

3. Cover + locking mechanism
- Usually the cover will be of the same size as the base, however it can differ due to the design of the package.
- Design the locking mechanism. Do research for interesting mechanism, which can be used for your package.

Thank You.

Cheers,
Edwin Lim

Performance Task: Package
>The followings are required to be drawn in the sketchbook,
1. Net diagram of package, with actual dimensions,
2. Net diagram of package, with graphics
3. 3D diagram of your package
4*. Drawings to showcase how the net diagram is folded to create the package. (Optional)

> DUE TODAY!!!

Homework for 2/4 Official troll day.

Science

- If you have not finished your energy worksheet, then you will have to do until page 15.

For absentees

- Mr Chan went through Pg 5 today, so you are supposed to do that.
> The answers are (LOOK ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED IT!!!)
m: mass of the object
g: gravitational field strength
h: height of object from reference point

For Pg 10:

a) 5 x 10 x 5 = 250
    Ans: 250 Joules

b) 250 + 20 = 270
    Ans: 270 J

c) 270 / 50 = 5.4
    Ans: 5.4 M

For page 11

1000                         0                                 1000
500                           500                             1000
0                               1000                           1000
250                           750                             1000
1000                         0                                 1000

For page 12

b) Point B

i) Gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy as the skater moves down. At point B, half of the amount of gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy.

c) Point C

i) Gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy as the skater moves down. At point C, all the gravitational potential energy is converted to kinetic energy thus the skater has the highest speed.

d) The sum of gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy is always the same.

e) Friction and air resistance is negligible.

And then you do until page 15 and I am not going to tell you my answers.

I&E

- For the groups that have not done their classification for your spreadsheet, then that is your homework.
> Remember to share the spreadsheet with Ms Choo
